- Need some invigorating holidays and fresh air, craving for infinite beaches and small fishing ports…or do you prefer to go deep inland? From the Vendée down to the Spanish border, you are welcome on the Atlantic coast! There, wherever you go, everything is big, everything is bliss, from the North to the South. Sailing, surfing on salt waters, canoeing on the fresh waters of the Marais Poitevin…or else sunbathing on fine sandy beaches, or walking in the Landes forest to breathe fresh air…
The Jade Coast has a warm and sunny climate thanks to the Gulf Stream. Within a 30 mile radius, you can visit such varying sites as Pornic, Saint Nazaire, La Baule, Guérande, Nantes and the Isle of Noirmoutier. Pornic’s fame rests on its coastline and beautiful natural scenery, with its houses on the rocky hillsides, its castle, the sunny harbour and the sea with its hanging pastel blue and jade hues. Pornic charms and haunts all who discover it. It would be hard to find anywhere else such harmony between nature and what man has made of it, such a fine balance between the stones, the trees, sky and ocean.
The St Gildas headland gives a magnificent panoramic view over the estuary and the Atlantic coast.
Saint Nazaire is a spectacular shipbuil-ding city that gave the world some of the most prestigious liners, like the France and Queen Mary 2. La Brière is the second largest salt marsh in France after the Camargue, forming a mosaic of channels you can discover on board a barge. Guérande, with its stone ramparts and salt flats.
Nantes, a city of art and history with its mediaeval town centre and castle, the Ile Feydeau and the houses of the 14th century shipping owners. The many museums (devoted to Jules Verne,
archaeology, natural history, the doll and old toys, etc.).
La Baule, said to have the finest beach in Europe.
Île de Noirmoutier, with the passage du Gois, a road you can only follow at low tide.
The Lac de Grand Lieu, one of the biggest lakes in France, with its outstanding flora and fauna, especially its bird life including the biggest heron in France.
